Who Is Jayne?
Well, I figure it is gentlemanly of me to introduce myself, and thank you, kind reader, for dropping by to read my words, and even look in on me.
So.. in a nutshell, I am a pretty typical guy if you look at the numbers. I am white, male, present CIS hetero-normative. I tend to lean liberal on social issues, conservative on financial ones, and am frustrated to hell about the state of politics right now. Because some of what I want to discuss in the blog will be personal, I will obscure my identity a bit as not to focus the attention on people I may refer to. Yes, I have an unusual name which does have a great reference from one of my favorite Sci-Fi shows.
I have been lucky enough to make my own way in the world by my own hand, growing up in the rural midwest, and eventually ending up self-employed in the tech industry on the West Coast. I'm in my 40s now, and at the 30,000-foot level, my life reads pretty typically. I have a child, I am recently divorced, I manage to stay pretty fit, have aspirations which seem somewhat out of reach, but I keep trying anyway.
Now, along the way, things were interesting. I grew up in a traumatically abusive home, which certainly left its mark. Nothing was really given to me, besides a fierce determination to survive. (That which doesn't kill you.. makes you more bitter and resentful after all.) It wasn't always pretty growing up and I certainly missed a lot of core support a kid needs. I compensated with an acrid sense of humor and by being a keen observer of people. I like to think I have a good head on my shoulders, and used that mind to try and understand the emotional context behind actions when I didn't understand them inherently (which was often). I am learning that my past still affects me greatly even now.
I think deeply about the patterns I see, around me and in myself. I am learning more each day and like to think I have insights that some may want to hear.

I hope to make this a habit, making an effort to post regularly about topics both light and heavy. I will write about abuse, racism, dating, cocktails and everything in between. I am going to focus on the perspective I know best.. my own, which I recognize won't always be popular but thats ok. That's OK.
Hopefully, people enjoy the read.
